70 Days ‘Til Spring!

We’ve started to freshen up the Gift Shop for Spring. Touches of pink, mint green and a cheerful yellow are appearing on the walls and seed starting supplies are on display now. The pacjanuary-2013kaged seeds will arrive soon.

As of today, (January 10th) there are only 70 days left until spring!

Don’t forget– even though we’re officially closed until Spring, someone is usually around if you need something. Just give us a call before you make the trip. 740-546-4467.

Pine Basket Workshop This Saturday

Don’t forget to sign up for the Pine Basket Workshop this Saturday at Noon at Ferda’s Garden Center. It costs ony $20 and you’ll get everything you need to create a basket of fresh greenery with pine cones and a bow to decorate your porch or patio this season. We’ll have some add-ins for purchase to make your basket one of a kind. Call to reserve your spot to 740-546-4467.

Thank You for Joining Us!

Thanks to all of you who came out to support us and the other small business folks who were set up in our loft gift shop this past Saturday. It is good to see that so many of you realize that without community backing, small businesses have a tough time making it, especially in this tighter economy.  Thanks for your support! It means a lot!

A Successful Holiday Open House

Today, November 19th, was our annual Holiday Open House. Did you make it? We had lots of fun, especially the visit from Santa. Gloria has been a good girl, how about you?

Next up, next Saturday (November 26th) we will be promoting Small Business Saturday. This is the day after “Black Friday,” the day we all get up really early and try to beat everyone else to the low-priced goodies at the Mall and the Big Box Stores. The next day is the traditional day to shop at small locally-owned businesses, including ours. We’ll also be providing spaces for local crafters and artists to sell their products. If you like the idea of having choices of where to shop, and you like the idea of keeping more of your dollars in your local economy, this day is for you!

We’ll have some specials in our shop, and some really unique gift items from local craftspersons. You won’t find anything like this at the Mall. Stop out and support your local economy.

Getting Ready for the Holidays

Last week we began the process of changing the store over from a Halloween theme to a Holiday theme. The Thanksgiving decor items are featured more prominently, and the Christmas is working its way into the forefront. (I’d rather wait until after Thanksgiving, too, but that’s just not possible, since our Holiday Open House takes place on November 19th.)

Then, following closely on the heels of the Holiday Open House, we’ll be having our Small Business Saturday promotion on Saturday, November 26th.  We’ll have specials in the store, and we’ll be sharing our space with some artists and craftspersons (even smaller businesses than us.) You’ll find some unique gifts made and sold by folks who live right here in the Valley, and you’ll be supporting small businesses and keeping more of your money circulating locally instead of being sent off to points unknown.

November Events at Ferda’s Garden Center

Don’t forget our November events. On Saturday, November 19th, join us for our annual Holiday Open House from 9AM to 4PM. We’ll have a visit from Santa, a kids’ craft activity, and bow making demonstrations, as well as cookies and punch and lots of ideas for your holiday decorating and gifting. Call for exact times.

Then the next Saturday, November 26th, we’ll be participating in Small Business Saturday by having specials in the store as well as providing a place for small crafters and artists to offer their wares to you. The loft area of our gift shop will have tables set up for them that Saturday only, from 9AM to 4PM. Come and buy some unique gifts for those on your list, and support small businesses at the same time. A win-win idea, for sure!

Harvestfest September 17th and 18th.

Don’t forget to mark the date for our annual Harvestfest, this year on Saturday, September 17th from 9 to 5 and Sunday, September 18th from 12 to 5.

We’ve got lots planned for you this year, including free food both days, Heather Ness’s butterfly tent, live music by the Uncle Eddie and Robin Band on Sunday, activities for kids and adults on Saturday, and several outside vendors selling art, pottery, jewelry, stitchery, baskets, soaps, and preserves. Check out the full schedule here.

Oh, and lots of stuff is on sale here during this weekend, too. Many perennials, shrubs and trees are on sale, and we have tables with clearance merchandise in the greenhouse.

Harvest Festival 2011 Is Coming!

Activity is gearing up here at Ferda’s Garden Center for our annual Harvest Festival. We’re finalizing the list of outside vendors, planning advertising, cleaning and redecorating some areas. And of course, great new product is coming in.

Adorable pumpkin decorating kits have arrived, more flags will be here this week, and the new Yankee Candle scents are expected next week.

When is it? Glad you asked!

It will take place on Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18th, 2011 during our regular hours. There will be free food both days, activities for kids and adults on Saturday, music by the wonderful Uncle Eddie and Robin Band on Sunday. Most of the outside vendors will be here both days, but some for only one, so call ahead if you are looking forward to seeing someone special so you don’t miss them!

Ahhh, August

Isn’t it great that the weather has moderated for a while? The heat and humidity was getting to me, and I’ll bet to you, too. Now that I can stand to be outside during the day, I’ve begun weeding again, and replacing mulch.

And don’t forget the next meeting of the Homesteaders group will take place on Saturday, August 27 at 11:00 AM here at the garden center. Don Feenerty will show us how to make a rain barrel (and one lucky attendee will take it home!) and we’ll be talking about how to use up the bumper crops we’re getting from our gardens about now.

Garden Photo Contest

Our Garden Photo Contest has come to an end. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Della Kanopsic! She has won a $50 gift card from Ferda’s Garden Center for her photo skills.  Thanks to all who entered.
